Ingredients

Splendid Bee was born in 2001, after two years of trial and error, developed the soap formula it continues using today.

The Splendid Bee Formula

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The organic EVOO used in Splendid Bee soaps is derived from the first olive pressing and makes a hard bar of soap and conditions the skin. Combined with other plant-based oils in our formula, you get a quick and generous lather that rinses clean, leaving your skin feeling perfectly clean and moisturized.

Organic Palm Oil

Palm oil comes from the fleshy part of the fruit, produced by the oil palm tree, Elaeis Guinnesis, indigenous to West Guinea. This oil makes a hard, white and long-lasting bar of soap, adding skin-conditioning qualities as well.

Palm oil is the plant-based alternative to lard- and tallow-based soaps.

Organic Palm Kernel Oil

This oil also comes from the oil palm tree, but is harvested from the kernel of the fruit’s core. Palm kernel oil generates a wonderfully fluffy lather and produces a hard and light-colored bar of soap.

Organic Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is a vegetable fat obtained from cocoa beans from the Theobroma Cacao tree and is one of the most stable fats available. It’s used as a “superfatting” agent in the Splendid Bee Formula, for more moisturized and less itchy skin. Cocoa butter is also helpful for reducing the appearance of stretch marks, wrinkles, scars, and burn marks as it increases skin elasticity and holds moisture in the skin.

Beeswax

A very small amount of beeswax, is used in the Splendid Bee Formula, as a replacement for stearic acid. This helps harden the bar of soap, so it lasts longer.

In addition, beeswax also carries antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, which are essential to skin’s health. Beeswax forms a protective barrier, sealing in moisture without clogging pores.

In 2010, Splendid Bee transitioned to using totally organic ingredients. This excludes beeswax, however,  since bees cannot be contained to a specific geographical area, one can never guarantee “organic”.

CERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Palm and Palm Kernel Oils are both certified by RSPO – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.* The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). When they are properly applied, these criteria can help to minimize the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.  For most consumers, this means no negative impact on areas where orangutans live.

All raw materials used in production bear the QAI certification – *Quality Assurance International which provides independent, third-party organic certification to products, internationally, at every stage of processing from farm or forest to bar of soap.

All applicable raw materials used in production from the United States are USDA Certified Organic.*

All applicable raw materials used in production are Non-GMO Project Verified*, North America’s most trusted third-party verification for non-GMO food and products.
